Project and Data Providers

Project Set-up

mGlider project is a collection of data for a particular security necessary to display its price chart and indicators with all supporting features in one or more time frames.

This was the official definition. If it sounds a bit complex, relax and know that mGlider project is your direct ticket to the world of trading. And we will show you how to set it up.

To create a new project go to "File" menu and click on "New..." or you could use Ctrl+N keyboard combination.

First of all, type in a Security Name and select a Security Type. Then add as many Time Frames as needed.

Security Name could either be a company name (in case of stocks) like "General Electric Co" or a symbol like "GE".

The advantage of providing a full company name is that a project could be easily recognized among other projects on a file system, Watch List or if there are multiple projects open in mGlider. The disadvantage is that you have to provide a Symbol for each Time Frame.

The advantage of using a Symbol for Security Name is that every newly added Time Frame is set up to use it as a Symbol for a chosen Data Provider. This can be a significant time saver when creating projects.

In most cases a Time Frame doesn't need any further configuration and default settings could be accepted.

In other cases you could choose a pereferred way to filter data and parameters for a given filtering method.

mGlider is also unique in that it allows you to choose different Data Providers (data feeds) for different Time Frames in one project.

A default Data Provider for a certain Security Type and a Time Frame can be set up in "Program Options" dialog accessable from "Tools" menu.

The benefit of always using "Default" data provider is that you can change one in the "Program Options" dialog and it will have an effect all project using it.

In the "Project Properties" dialog a "Default" data provider can always be recognized by a "Symbol look-up" icon. In this case it is Yahoo Finance.

Data Providers

A default Data Provider for a certain Security Type and a Time Frame can be set up in "Program Options" dialog accessable from "Tools" menu.

Some Data Providers require a small set-up before they can be used. In other cases you might want to adjust default setting or learn how to choose a proper Security Symbol for a Data Provider in question. The following list will provide you with detailed instructions:
